Watch Outkast Tackle Pro and 2021 Bassmaster Angler of the Year Seth Feider break down the Heavy Cover Edition Pro Swim Jig and see why this swim bait jig head excels in all types of heavy cover.
Video Highlights
This is the beefed-up version of the Outkast Pro Swim Jig that is just awesome in heavy cover. With a sturdier hook than our standard bass swim jig, Seth likes to throw the Heavy Cover Edition around on braid without worrying about bending the hook or losing a big fish way back in the cover. The Heavy Cover Edition Pro Swim Jig also has a big weedguard so you can throw it deep into cover without ever getting hung up and a wider keeper that locks in soft plastic swimbaits better than other swim jigs.
Because this swim jig is so weedless, you can do a lot more with it and cover a lot of water. As Seth points out in the video, even if you’re not catching on the Heavy Cover Swim Jig, you can go searching through heavy cover with it, seeing if fish move in the pads or boil underneath. Once you’ve scouted it out, you can go back in with the RTX and flip right into the juice.
Rig Specs
Seth likes to fish Outkast’s standard Pro Swim Jig on straight fluorocarbon on a 7.5’ medium-heavy action rod – with the Heavy Cover Edition he switches to 8’ med-heavy rod with a soft tip. He also runs with a 40 lb 832 braid with a 17 lb fluorocarbon leader and a high-speed reel. The high-speed reel is super important with swim jigs because a lot of bites will push the bait toward you and you have to get a few good handle turns quickly to keep them on.
